First Mutual Holding Co. (FMHC) is a member-owned holding company with $3.2 billion in assets across five mutual banks. Across those banks, sales and service conversations are the top priority for every president and CEO, because those conversations shape the customer experience and drive growth. Melinda Fellenstein, who runs retail onboarding and training, had to make sure every banker was ready for them.

> LemonadeLXP really was a no-brainer for us.

## One worksheet, five banks, a lot of different outcomes

Before LemonadeLXP, FMHC prepared bankers for sales and service conversations with role-play worksheets, practiced in pairs, in the branch. How well it worked depended on how much each branch bought in, so practice looked different from branch to branch, and so did the conversations that came out of it.

- **Two people off the floor.** Every role play pulled two bankers away from serving customers.
- **No consistency.** Every branch ran it differently, with different results.
- **Onboarding overload.** New hires got so much information in their first few weeks that [much of it didn't stick](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/c/blog/forgetting-curve-explained), "to no fault of their own."

> We had no way to track who was succeeding, who was lacking, who needed what.  — *Melinda Fellenstein*

## It had to work for a mighty team of two

FMHC's retail training team is two people supporting five banks. More live sessions weren't the answer. FMHC needed a way to [scale consistent training across every bank](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/solutions/operations-leaders) without adding trainers or pulling staff away from customers.

LemonadeLXP gave that small team reach. Ready-made courses from [LemonadeLXP's content library](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/c/blog/content-crisis-small-teams) meant Melinda didn't have to build everything from scratch, and [new courses are quick to create and launch](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/platform/ai-content-creation). Certifications let her assign the learning that matters most and track it across every bank.

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WqeBNq-YpQU" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***What stood out about LemonadeLXP?*** *In short: the ease of it. It's fun and interactive for learners, easy for a small team to implement and to build and launch content, and quick enough that bankers actually use it.*

### What FMHC wouldn't compromise on

- Ongoing learning that keeps skills sharp long after onboarding
- Training that's quick, easy and fun, so bankers actually use it
- Conversation practice that keeps staff on the floor
- One view of performance across all five banks

> Learners want something that's quick, easy and fun. That's what LemonadeLXP gives them.  *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/f2pWw6oieCk" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***What were you hoping to find in a learning solution?*** *In short: ongoing, on-demand refresher training, because new hires can't retain everything at once and confidence builds through practice over days and weeks.*

## The report that tied it all together

Learners got something fun and interactive. Melinda's team got content that's easy to build and launch. But [the reporting closed the decision](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/platform/analytics-reporting). For the first time, FMHC could see who was succeeding and who needed help across all five banks, so managers can coach where it counts.

> Reporting across five member banks used to be a nightmare for me. Now the reporting LemonadeLXP gives us is bar none.
> *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mn7WPxwIGhQ" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

**When was the "aha moment" when you realized this could really work for your institution?** *In short: the reporting. Tracking training across five affiliate banks used to be a nightmare, and LemonadeLXP's reporting tied the whole decision together.*

## Practice without an audience

[AI Conversations](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/platform/ai-conversations) works inside the same LemonadeLXP platform as FMHC's courses and certifications, so conversation practice builds on everything else bankers are learning. And it no longer takes two people off the floor. Each banker has realistic customer conversations with AI on their own time, gets feedback and tries again as often as they want. So by the time they're in front of a real customer, they've already had the conversation.

> AI Conversations provides a judge-free-from-their-peers zone to self-evaluate and adjust their approach to customer conversations.  *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uwMZesXY7W4" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***How do you see employees benefiting from being able to practice realistic conversations in a safe environment?*** *In short: bankers get real-world feedback in private, without peers watching, so they can self-evaluate and adjust their approach before they talk to customers.*

### What set LemonadeLXP apart for FMHC

- Modern microlearning bankers want to come back to
- A ready-made content library and fast course creation for a small team
- Certifications and reporting across all five affiliate banks
- AI Conversations for private, repeatable practice

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/65x_9htuP6s" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***What excites you most about using AI roleplay to prepare employees for customer conversations?*** *In short: each banker practices on their own time without pulling two people off the floor, then proves it in a live role play with their supervisor.*

## A confident frontline

FMHC's goal is a frontline with more confidence and less hesitation. Bankers who invite customers over, ask better questions and respond in a way that's knowledgeable, empathetic and authentic. That's how FMHC plans to deliver consistent, meaningful conversations in every branch and on every call, and how its affiliate banks earn stronger customer relationships.

> With AI Conversations, every banker gets a private place to practice until they're confident.  *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uEUaW4FNFIY" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***What results are you hoping to see in your institution after implementing LemonadeLXP?*** *In short: more confident bankers and more consistent customer conversations, with learning that lets each banker practice privately, learn from mistakes and see their own progress.*

## Why leadership said yes

For FMHC's leaders, this was never just a training project. Sales and service conversations decide how customers experience their banks, and [that makes them a growth initiative](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/c/blog/webinar-frontline-conversations). So when Melinda found a new way to prepare bankers for those conversations, she took it straight to the presidents and CEOs of the affiliate banks.

> I know from having conversations with presidents and CEOs from all of our member banks that LemonadeLXP's AI Conversations was definitely the way to go. Sales and service is the number one priority on everybody's list.  *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Hg92tAeaSew" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***Why was AI Conversations an important use case to share with your leadership team?*** *In short: sales and service conversations directly shape the customer experience, and AI Conversations supports FMHC's broader goals for growth and innovation.*

## A partner, not just a platform

LemonadeLXP's customer success team is part of the solution. They work alongside Melinda to turn FMHC's goals into programs that reach every bank, and to help her get even more out of the platform as the program grows.

> The LemonadeLXP team is wonderful.  *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

## Advice for financial institutions considering a learning platform

What should a bank or credit union look for when [choosing a learning platform](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/c/blog/lxp-definition)? Here's Melinda's advice:

- **Solve a problem your people already feel.** Choose a platform for a challenge employees and managers already recognize, not because it's the newest tool.
- **Make sure learners will actually use it.** Look for training that's quick, easy and fun. Bankers don't want an hour of training every day.
- **Make sure a small team can run it.** Easy implementation, fast course creation and ready-made content matter when your training team is small.
- **Insist on reporting across every location.** You need to see who's succeeding and who needs help, in every branch and every bank.
- **Look for practice built on real life.** AI practice works best with scenarios taken from actual branch conversations. At FMHC, it builds up to a live role play with a supervisor, so it strengthens coaching instead of replacing it.
- **Choose a partner, not just a platform.** The right customer success team helps you get more out of it as your program grows.

> LemonadeLXP is fun. It's supporting. It's empowering. And at the end of the day, who doesn't like to play games?
> *—  Melinda Fellenstein*

<iframe class="hs-responsive-embed-iframe" style="position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; border: none;" xml="lang" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xmlvcOkqbJ4" width="800" height="450" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen data-service="youtube"></iframe>

***What advice would you give another financial institution considering LemonadeLXP?*** *In short: choose a platform that solves a problem your people already feel, makes their work easier and builds practice from real branch conversations.*

## The Final Squeeze

Many banks share FMHC's challenge: a small training team, several locations and sales and service conversations that decide whether customers stay and grow with them. FMHC chose LemonadeLXP, the [all-in-one learning and knowledge platform](https://www.lemonadelxp.com/platform) for financial institutions, to build a confident frontline that delivers a consistent customer experience across all five banks, and to keep its mutual banks competitive as banking keeps changing.

> We're proud to partner with First Mutual as they bring more confidence to their frontline. Their bankers sharpen their skills with quick microlearning, and they don't wait for a role-play partner anymore. They rehearse with AI Conversations on their own time and walk into customer conversations ready. And when sales and service is the top priority for every president and CEO across their banks, that's not a training win. That's a growth strategy.

You know, not everybody learns the same way. And not everybody develops the same confidence at the same pace. So, something for everybody. So I really like to make it special and unique for all of our learners. You know, yeah, you know, Lemonade really gives them the freedom to practice privately, learn from their mistakes, and recognize their own progress. So, you know, being in training as long as I have and seeing the way that it has evolved over the years, it is really rewarding to introduce a resource like Lemonade that can make learning more relevant. Their peers aren't looking at them and judging them and having conversations about what you did right, what you did wrong, and things like that. I would ask them to begin with a clear challenge that employees and managers already recognize. What is that? I, you know, don't recognize or don't introduce AI simply as a new technology. Show them how it can make their practice easier. Provide a safe place to develop those skills that they already have and support and coach the managers who are already providing that and make it easier for them. You know, AI is there as a tool to make life easier. It's not there to make it harder. You know, I would recommend involving employees and managers early in the process. Listen to their feedback. Make practical scenarios like we did. We took practical scenarios that happen in the branches and made AI scenarios out of that. Those practical real life customer conversations easier to create with AI than a conversation that is really never going to happen. Because when you do that, people can see how the experience is going to connect with their daily work, their daily customer conversations, and then the adoption for that AI is going to be more meaningful.",
